Knowing how to grow weed is something every grower is proud of. Why wouldn’t they be? They get to smoke the best quality buds for the lowest of prices. However, many people wonder whether it is worth growing weed indoors or if its easier to buy on the streets. Ive put together some information that could help you deicide if its worth setting up a grow room of your own.
Grow Room Setup
To start with you will need cannabis growing equipment and a secure location to set up a grow room:
- Cannabis grow tent
- Cannabis grow light
- Grow Light Contactor
- Hydroponic Timer
- Grow room exhaust fan and filter kit
- Air intake fan
- Oscillating fan
- Fan speed controller (not necessary, but worth their weight in gold)
- Grow room heater
- Plant pots and Coco-coir, Soil or a hydroponic growing system
- PH up and down and PH test kit
- 10 or 20 litre bucket for nutrient mixing
- Pea net with around 6 inch holes
- Cannabis seeds or clones
Correctly setting up a grow room can take some time, i have a full Grow Room Guide on this site. The guide explains how to build a grow room in a way that you can maintain the environment properly. A simple diagram of a grow room setup should help you full understand how to put everything in its correct place.
Choosing the cannabis strain you want to grow is important. All strains have different characteristics, some are tall, some are short. Some stink like crazy, some don’t smell too much. Try to purchase seeds from a reputable seed bank such as Sensi Seeds. This ensures that you get what you pay for. An Indica strain would be small and likely to finish the flowering stage in 8 – 9 weeks. A Sativa strain plant is likely to be all, thin and take 12 – 14 weeks to flower, maybe longer. You can learn more about the difference between Sativa and Indica here.
Germinating Cannabis Seeds
You’ll need to germinate the seeds. The simplest method is by putting them in a wet paper towel between 2 plates. Leave them in a dark cupboard at room temperature for a couple of days. Once a few days have gone by they should have sprouted. Put them into the soil or into rock wool cubes, keep them moist and watch them turn into little cannabis plants. You can learn much more about this at the Germinating Cannabis Seeds guide on this site.
The vegetative stage is the bit where your plants are growing up, like children/teenagers. The cannabis grow light will need to be on for 18 hours and off for 6 hours each day. The more plants you have under one grow light, the quicker this stage will be. This is because your aim is to cover 75% of the width in the tent. Higher numbers of plants will fill the space quicker. If your learning how to grow weed, you might want to check out our full Vegetative Stage Guide.
This is the stage where the buds are growing, this is the point where knowing how to grow weed gets exciting. The light cycle will need to be on for 12 hours and off for 12 hours. After around 2-3 weeks of this, the plants will start to show small white buds. The buds will produce resin and begin to smell. A good carbon filter and extractor fan is needed. The flowering stage for Indica strains is usually around 8 – 9 weeks. Sativa strains usually take 12 – 14 weeks to flower, often even longer. On this site there is a full Flowering Stage Guide that i have written, hopefully it can help you to get a bigger yield.
Knowing how to grow weed is one thing, but knowing how to dry it is just as important. If you take time and effort to dry your weed properly, you will thank yourself. Your weed will taste and smell wonderful and the smoke will be smooth. Leaving your weed in a well ventilated dark room at 18 – 20ºC for 10 – 15 days is a pretty good way to dry it. Check out the Harvesting & Drying Guide on this site for more information.
